Drive simply re-formats itself

Using a 1.0 Gigabyte passport drive. Did contain nearly 800 Gigabyes of data.

Today it just suddenly contains only SVI and Recycle bin.

Drive apparently just decided to reformat itself.

I’m an IT specialist, so no comments about I formatted  it accidentally.

What a total piece of junk, no reliability whatsoever.

Will just degauss the thing, give it a few whacks with a sledge hammer

and put in trash. No more WD drives for me.

It is possible that data on the drive is corrupted and that’s why it is not seen. It may be possible to still extract the data utilizing data recovery software. There are several kinds of Data Recovery software available. If you do a  web search for  Data Recovery  it will yield plenty of data recovery software options.

I will have to give WDC credit. I spoke to Pablo in support who discussed the drive problem and is sending me a replacement drive. Well done Western Digital.

MacRL, did you get a fix for your hard drive or did you just get the replacement. The same thing happened to me today and I’m trying to see if I can recover my files. Did you use any recovery software? If so, did you have any luck.

I am so pissed that this happend to me. All of my work was saved on that hard drive.

The same issue happened to me today. Is there any way to fix or recover the drive. This is obviousy a known issue with WD drives as I’ve seen a few posts on here. Please help.
