I’d like to configure the TV Live as an SMB file server (windows share). Question - would doing so require that the TV Live be on at all times, or would a network request from another machine wake it up?

Hi, check page 67 of the manual. I think that just like the the Live hub, any connected memory/hard drive to it will be accessible on the network when the Live plus is in standby mode.
It depends on the hardware. Older LIVE boxes would stay on network. Newer Live (not the SMP, still just the Live) and all Live Plus boxes fully shut down.
I think there’s even been variations in firmware behavior.
if it’s the gen2 Live you have it will fully shutdown, it will act as you want by installing WDLXTV firmware.
