There is a pop up box in the corner of my screen telling me there is a more recent version of WD Discovery available. It pings constantly and is driving me mad. Is the only way to get rid of it to update?

To stop WD Discovery from automatically starting during computer start up uncheck the box next to Start on system startup . You can refer the below mentioned support knowledge base article to know the steps.
