I have a WD2502ABYS-01B7A0. It had Linux mint installed. Odd error with file permission suddenly appeared and then the OS crashed to grub. From windows 10 the WD diagnotic tool failed the short test with
code = 07 Failed read test element, failure 97
From other posts. The drive looked buggered.
I tried the drive on a different power and sata lead - no difference. Then, used the erase function of the diagnotic tool. erase completed. from computer management added the mbr and formated the drive - fine. went back to to both the short and extended test - completed without error. the drive is now working fine. passes windows chkdsk etc. So, is the drive okay? Not sure what happened.
If drive passed in Data Lifeguard Diagnostic test, indicates drive is working fine.
