Disabling vcd

I already have data on my drive but I want to access it from a public (non-admin) account.

If I DISABLE VCD will this allow me access the drive? WILL DISABLING VCD ERASE MY DATA?

I bought the HD just last week, will I need to update the firmware BEFORE DOING THIS?

OR CAN I just go straight into VCD manager.exe and configure the drive to disable VCD?

Depending on the firmware version on your drive, you may need to update the firmware before you can use the VCD Manager.  Please see the link below for more information:
