Device restart required to browse samba shares and window shares

Dear Readers,

RE: Western Digital WD TV Live Streaming Media Player - WDBHG70000NBK-HESN
Firmware 1.07.15

I have a LAN. One PC is Windows 7 sharing some folders. The other is Linux using samba sharing some folders. Each share requires a username and password for access. WD TV Live has a wired connection to network.

I have to keep running “device restart” because it seems to loose connection to one shared PC or the other.  “Device Restart” means rebooting the device.  Maybe you think it can’t connect to my shares because I keep messing up my password?  No.  How do I know my password and user name were entered correctly?  Because the device connects to my shares after running “device restart” without requiring me to re enter my password.

Steps:

  1. WD Live is connected to both shares.

  2. Next day at least one share is no longer connected.

  3. No, I did not change my passwords on the Linux or Windows box.

  4. I try to access a linux or windows share from WD Live

  5. It says username / password incorrect

  6. I enter the credentials again.

  7. It says username / password incorrect

  8. I enter credentials again.

  9. It says username / password incorrect

  10. On the WD Live I click  “device restart”

  11. WD Live restarts.

  12. WD Live is able to access shares from both PCs and does it without saying “username / password incorrect”.

  13. My credentials were right all along!

  14. What an annoyance.

Thank you for letting me vent.

Hi, next time it happens restart the router instead of the WD TV and see what happens.
