Dashboard shortcut on desktop?

hi,
just succeed to access my new MyCloud, it was not easy since the setup steps were a little different to the instructions I saw/read in internet. Nevertheless in internet there I can see that the user get created a shortcut to the Dashboard on his desktop. I dont have any shortcus even for the dashboard, not for Shares , not something else from WD or mycloud.
Is this no more actuall?

There is no need for a shortcut on the desktop. One simply accesses the My Cloud Dashboard using a web browser and navigating to the address:
Windows: http://wdmycloud
Mac: http://wdmycloud.local

See the following WD Support document for more information on how to access the My Cloud Dashboard:

http://support.wdc.com/KnowledgeBase/answer.aspx?ID=13965

I saw this, but I find that a shortcut is better to fet my needs. is there way to have shortcut of the dashboard?

Yes, perform an internet search for creating an internet shortcut for your web browser on your desktop. There should be a number of general directions that explain how to create a desktop shortcut to a website. For example here is such set of directions:

http://www.wikihow.com/Put-a-Website-on-Your-Desktop

I know hot to creat shortcut to webpage, I mean a shortcut throu installing a software. I dont understand have the setup procedure been changed?

moment, there is/was also a software which sitts as tray icon next to the clock and from where I can reach other Mycloud options/feature/software. Is this also not actual?

This instruction in the video How to Setup WD My Cloud for Windows - YouTube is actual or not? He is talking about MyCloud desktop application?

To use the My Cloud locally one does not need to use any WD software. To setup the My Cloud one does not need to use any software. All setup and configuration of the My Cloud can be done through the My Cloud Dashboard.

Several WD software programs that can be used in conjunction with the My Cloud do put an icon in the Windows task tray. One can download those WD software programs from the following link:

https://support.wdc.com/product.aspx?ID=904#WD_downloads

The My Cloud Desktop program (which isn’t really needed for local access) can be downloaded from the following link:

http://setup.wd2go.com/index.php?mod=download&device=mc

That video was published two and a half years ago. WD have messed about with their setup and support software suite (sorry, have ‘reserved the right to perform continuous product improvement’).

See Bennor’s comments; learn to control your device via the Dashboard. Download and read the user manual.

ok, to clarify:
Dashboard is the place where you can setup Mycloud, update Mycloud, set user/rights, share files
everything can be done via dashboard.

In the MyCloud Desktop you can ONLY manage the shares.

right?

Dashboard is the MyCloud’s UI.

I don’t know what the desktop app does; I don’t use it.

To clarify, download and read the user manual

tthere is no user manual only for the desktop app, right? you mean the general mycloud user manual?

One can download the My Cloud User Manual from the following link, make sure to download the correct manual for your firmware version:
http://support.wdc.com/product.aspx?ID=904

For those devices on the same local network as the My Cloud one can use Windows File Explorer or Mac Finder to access the My Cloud. to make things easier one can “map” the My Cloud to their computer.

More information on the My Cloud Desktop app can be found at this link:

and WD QuickView is without action, because in the icon in the system tray i only 2 options - about and quit??? what is his function

if you are asking what function does the WD QuickView serve, one can read a general explination of the program at the following WD Support link:

https://support.wdc.com/downloads.aspx?p=188&lang=en

Description

This download contains the latest version of the WD Quick View for Windows that supports the newly released WD My Cloud EX2. This is a utility that will discover WD network attached storage drives on the network and provide drive status information.
Very Important: The WD Quick View will not work with older WD network drives such as the My Book World Edition (Blue Rings).

Supported Operating Systems

XP SP3+
Vista
Windows 7
Windows 8.1 or earlier

thanks, quick view works now, it maybe needed some time for some reason

I love the answers to this question. I was wondering the same thing, I have seen a shortcut to the Dashboard for Mac on the internet and it is also in the instruction manual for My Cloud. Why does customer service ask why we want one. It’s a shortcut, with a shortcut you don’t have to type in an IP address, log in etc. you just click the shortcut on you are on your dashboard. If there is one in the instruction manual should there not be one in the setup? I am so disappointed with WD customer service. Maybe they should read the manuals and understand where we are coming from, love the product, not the customer service so much.

There are no replies from customer service on this thread.

This is a user forum. The replies are from users, just like you. We can’t change anything on the firmware or the software. All we can do is to suggest how best to use the device as it is.

WD is the worst and I am extremely disappointed in the company. I needed the desktop app to transfer numerous amounts of files and now it won’t work.

For local access to the My Cloud by a computer on the same local network as the My Cloud, one has never needed to use the My Cloud Desktop app. Instead one uses Windows File Explorer or Mac Finder.

Currently for remote access to a My Cloud located on another network one uses the MyCloud.com web portal, or the insecure FTP (enabled through the My Cloud Dashboard and a port forward route for it created in the network router). Or one can dispense with using WD apps and create their own VPN server on the same network as the My Cloud and use a VPN client to remotely access that network. A properly configured VPN tunnel will allow a user to have similar access to the My Cloud from a remote location as if they were on the same local network as the My Cloud. Meaning one could use Windows File Explorer/Mac Finder to copy files to the My Cloud while in a remote location. Some consumer routers (like ASUS for example) include VPN server capability.
