Dashboard external drive wipe

I have several old HDs, Wd & other makers, that I want to wipe prior to recycling. Can I do these by slipping the drives one at a time into external drive connected to a USB port?

sure, but be aware that some may be IDE Interface and newer ones will be SATA

if you have both types, you’ll need a USB Enclosure that can handle both

also, if your drives are 3.5" Inch (as pictured above) … you will need a AC Powered USB Enclosure

A Non AC Powered USB Enclosure only work with 2.5"

Thanks, Joey. I’ll be using an IDE enclosure I’ve had for years. I’ll open the PC case and connect the SATAs directly.

Just a little nervous about a misstep that wipes the wrong HD :frowning: I’ll first check the connected drive letters before plugging in the external drive, and then note the letter (or letters if partitioned) added after plugging it in. Then I’ll check the file dates and names.
