Copying whole folders to USB drive as backup

I have decided I don’t really like the Safepoint method used by MyCloud and would prefer to just make a copy of the contents to the attached USB drive, say once a week. Then I’d just keep up to 3 copies and delete old ones. Is there a way to schedule this? If not, I don’t mind kicking it off manually - only I do NOT want the copying done by my PC, I want the copying to be handled by the MyCloud directly to the USB drive so that I can carry on working on my PC without slowdown, or even turn the PC off.

Officially, no, there is no other method other than Safepoint / Backup within the My Cloud single drive Dashboard to backup the My Cloud to a USB hard drive attached to the My Cloud USB port.

Unofficially, there are a number of methods, from using software on your local PC (like Free File Sync - https://www.freefilesync.org/) to using SSH within the My Cloud firmware to create an Rsync (or similar) copy function to the external USB hard drive. You can find a number of past discussions on alternatives to Safepoint / Backup by using the subforum search feature, magnifying glass icon upper right. Here is one such discussion:
