Constant disk activity, power only, not SMR

Considering that this drive has run 33204 hours, I guess the LCC value is OK. I bought this drive used, some time ago, so I suppose someone must have turned the idle timer off. Here’s an older post

Hi All, After a wasted week of trying to get an answer out of Western Digital, I decided I’d post the answer here. WD2001FASS - Caviar Black 2TB It parks heads after 12.8 seconds. It will eventually kill itself doing this. I was getting around 1400 Load Cycle Count a day due it parking and waking up constantly. WDIDLE3 works perfectly on these drives. I will set the idle timer to 5 minutes and see what happens:

idle3ctl -s138 /dev/sdb
Idle3 timer set to 138 (0x8a)
Please power cycle your drive off and on for the new setting to be taken into account. A reboot will not be enough!

idle3ctl -g103 /dev/sdb
Idle3 timer set to 300.0s (0x8a)
