Configuring my NAS drive as an SFTP Client and Server

I want to perform and configure my NAS drive to an SFTP Server and client mode.
Which steps should I need to perform? Would I need to include (SSH) secure socket handling?
This I would need to test my SSH and SFTP connections prior to creating my own webpage.
