i have two caviar green drives that have both failed in the last month.
Both of these drives are around 3 to 4 years old and have had light use.
I had them in a backup pc that was only used once a week to backup files on my network.
both failed when i tried to format them in windows.
I have used the warranty checker and it claims that both are out of warranty but the dates it shows are incorrect.
1,21,12 and 1,16,13.
i bought these drives in 2012 so how could they be out of warranty before they were 1 year old and why have both drives failed when drives from other manufacturers runnung in the same system bought either at the same time or one of them 2 years before continue to run ok?
How are they failing? Are they still being detected by the BIOS? I posted a separate topic on this as we’ve had 6 failures in the past 3 days which is unprecented (Caviar Blue). Ours all are exhibiting a ‘stuck spindle’ failure.
all three are detected by bios, one will not format, the other two will not read and write properly and cause the system to crash if i try to use them. i have given up trying to recover data from them.
very disappointed with these unreliable drives drives
You may want to try buying your WD drives from a completely new vendor. Perhaps the shipper or the store employees themselves are handling the drives a little rough . WD drives should not be failing that often.
