Can't mount G-Drive and Can't find it in System Profiler

My older G-Drive mini (USB 2.0) is no longer mounted on the desktop of my MacBook Pro–also older. The laptop uses Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.3. I cannot find the G-Drive in the Disk Utility application and cannot find it in System Profiler after clicking the USB in the hardware section. Is this a hardware problem? Do I need a new external hard drive? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

If you cannot see it on USB section in the profiler then yes it is a hardware issue with the device. You would need to get a new drive at this point.
