Can't download files from drive

Hi,

If I drag files off of my hard drive it constantly says “preparing to copy” but eventually does nothing, nor can I open any files either. However, I can drag files onto the drive with no problem.
It also takes a long time to open folders in the drive and display files.
I can’t copy my files from my malfunctioning drive to other drives, desktop or cloud services.
