Can't delete backups

I have a 3-drive backup, with the WD holding the oldest and most information. I need to make sure there’s always room available on the drive. When I manually remove backups (going into the mounted HD and deleting the dated folder), the free-space light on the HD doesn’t go down, so am not sure if it’s actaully deleting.

I’m also curious if there’s a way to automatically delete older backups on a set schedule.

Hello Rollk1, you don’t say the name of the backup software you are currently using, but if you are using Smartware, there is currently no way to delete backups automatically. To delete the Smartware backups folder, just delete the folder named smartware.swstor. You can also see the amount of available hard drive space by clicking on “Get info”.
