Can't access my files! Message "you don't currently have permission to access this folder"

I’ve just had my HDD upgraded and now my I can’t open the files in my WD external drive (WD2500XMS-00). Is it because I created the folders from my other HDD?

I tried resolving it but it leads to a dead end asking for the folder properties. I didn’t set up any security features so I don’t know why I can’t access it. I also had Win 8 installed with the new HDD, could that be the problem?

From the ‘don’t have permission’ message above, I clicked on Continue -   then security tab -   then Advanced -   then change.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello

What OS did you first create the files on?

Are you using the same OS with the external drive?

Did you just copy the files to the external drive from the old drive?

If you did were you able to read the files with the old drive operating in the same computer?
