Can't access a newly bought WD My Cloud

زHi there,
My friend bought me a “new” WD My Cloud from FNAC store in Paris France and sent it to me in Yemen.
I opened the packaging and connected the device.
Followed the steps but then I got this message: Your WD My Cloud is secured. Enter the admin username and password for access to the device. ?!!!
In the username box it says “Samuel”.
I’m no Samuel!
So I’m guessing a Samuel returned this device after registering it.
What can I do to reset the device to factory settings? Given that I can’t access the settings for the WD software?

First step, I would suggest you remove the graphic from your first post as it may contain sensitive information in the receipt. Next, if you think the device was used, is to perform a System Restore via the reset button on the back of the My Cloud device.

Performing a System Restore through the Reset button
The Reset button may also be used to perform a System Restore on the device. At the same time as the power is plugged to the My Cloud device, pressing the Reset button and holding it for about 40 seconds, will make the device to go through a System Restore instead of a Reset. This System Restore will not cause data loss, and all Private Shares will become Public Shares. For more information on System Restore, please see Answer ID 10433: How to restore a My Cloud storage device to factory default settings.

Next if you are able to access the My Cloud Dashboard and there is existing content on the device you can either manually delete the contents or perform a Quick Factory Restore via the WD My Cloud Dashboard > Settings > Utilities > System Factory Restore > Quick Restore button.

If you have not already done so it is recommended one read the WD My Cloud User Manual which explains how to setup, configure and use the My Cloud and its features.
