Cannot copy files to My Passport (500GB)

I copied important files to the “My Passport” then re-installed windows XP.    Now when I try to copy additional

files to “My Passport” I receive the following error from Windows:

Error Copying File or Folder

Cannot copy “file X”:   Access is Denied

Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.
