Can Not Upgrade new Firmware?

I have media player WD00AVN version 1.01.02 and I try to upgrade to the new version 1.03.01.  When the media player is on, I don’t see any upgrade icon.  I put the the upgrade file in my hard drive (not in the folder)  Please someone can help me out with this problem?  Thanks.

You have the WDTV HD gen 1 which is not covered on this forum. However have you extracted the files from the zip and put them in the root of your attached hard disc as per the upgrade instructions.

To update the firmware:

  1. Go to http://support.wdc.com and download the latest firmware update compressed  file

for your Media Player.

  1. Click “Downloads” then the product name (or photo).

  2. Extract the two files (.BIN and .VER files) to the root folder of a portable USB drive.

  3. Connect the USB drive to the HD media player’s USB port.

  4. Press HOME, and then select the Settings bar.

  5. Select the firmware upgrade icon, and then press ENTER.

  6. You are prompted to perform the firmware upgrade.

  7. Select OK on the firmware update prompt, and then press ENTER.  This will restart the

system.

  1. After restarting, the system automatically enters firmware upgrade mode.

  2. Once the update process is completed, the HD media player will restart again.

  3. Once the HD media player restarts, the new firmware is automatically loaded.

The user has a WDTV HD gen 1 and the firmware on that device only has 2 files (.ver and .bin)

First you do have a WDTV HD gen1 don’t you.

You have checked that the current firmware is 1.01.02

Yo do have the correct firmware for the gen1 - 1.03.01

You have unzipped the 1.03.01 file and put the two files (.ver and .bin) into the root of a usb drive (not in a folder on that drive).

You have no other files in the root of this drive.

With the drive attached you did press HOME, and then select the Settings bar. I don’t have a WDTV gen1 so you may have to scroll for the firmware upgrade icon in the settings bar. (it looks like a folder with an arrow pointing down)

If this does not work try another USB drive, for instance a cheap flash drive.

If this does not work I suggest you post in the WDTV HD forum as they have more knowledge on this unit.
