Blue vs Black internal HD

The aging HD in my Dell desktop is a blue caviar WD5000AAKX (Caviar i think). I’d like to replace it with a newer one before it crashes. Apparently the “black” HD has a 5-year warranty instead of 2-yr for blue. If so the black one may be a suitable replacement but i’m having trouble finding one on Amazon.com.

(1) is black a “Caviar” drive and suitable replacement for the installed blue one ?
(2) if so what is WD id for it ?
(3) what is significance of “Caviar” since not all colored drives have that designation ?

Thanx.

From what I understood “Caviar” blue drives are desktop ones, while “Scorpio” are laptop ones.

Your WD5000AAKX is a 500gb desktop 7200rpm blue drive.

The current drive that probably can replace it easily I would guess is the WD10EZEX drive.

Here the HDD on Microcenter: WD Blue Mainstream 1TB 5400RPM SATA III 6Gb/s 2.5" Internal SMR Hard Drive - Micro Center

Here is the “boxed” version of it: WD Blue Mainstream 1TB 7200RPM SATA III 6Gb/s 3.5" Internal CMR Hard Drive - Micro Center

Hi Mauricio: Thanx for the post. Can you explain why the “boxed” product is
cheaper than the “bare” one but only avail for pick up at a store ?
Unfortunately i live in FL where there are no stores so am forced into
buying a more expensive “bare” one. Doesn’t make sense to me.
