Blinking RED LED's

One of my WD Sentinel 4000’s shut off overnight. I tried to power it back up but the blue power LED doesn’t come on. Drives 1,2,&4 are showing a RED flashing LED. Tried a different PS but with the same results.  Obviously this isn’t good but does anyone know what this actually indicates.

I am sure this is no help but FWIW

Thanks. I should add that I don’t hear any drives spinning and I suspect something like a system board failure since the blue LED doesn’t light up either. I also sent an inquiry to WD support so maybe they’ll have a suggestion.

Ok, so I received info from WD support about moving ahead with the recovery process but since my box seems dead in the water I have no idea how this will even be possible. However in the spirit of cooperation I decided to proceed. I downloaded the recovery ISO and installed .NET and Poweriso. I placed a known working 64GB thumb drive into the USB slot and told the WD Recovery Utility to perform a Recover. First thing it did was attempt to copy the ISO onto the USB drive and failed. I tried the whole thing on another workstation with the necessary utilities installed – again a failure with two different USB drives that I tested prior to beginning the process. Not only does the recovery utility fail to create the USB recovery drive but it completely screws up the host system USB drivers. After running the recovery utility neither of the USB drives were recognizable by Windows 7. I had to perform a system restore to get things working again. I am still waiting for Tech Support to repsond to my request for further advice but for now this is a dead-end!! I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced these kinds of problems trying to make the USB recovery drive? :confounded:

Try thhis to mount the iso  http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=38780

Oh, be sure and check the md5 hash/checksum of your download.  Bad downloads happen a lot and cause many problems

According to the technician that I spoke with at WD the 64Gb drives will not work with the WD Servery Recovery utility. I used a 32Gb drive and was finally able to sucessfully create the USB recovery thumb drive. Ultimately it really didn’t matter since as I suspected the problem was a failed controller board in the DX4000 frame. WD sent out a replacement DX4000 under warrantee and I was able to place the drives from my failed unit into the new unit and with a couple of tweaks got it up and running again. :smileyvery-happy:

Thanks for the update.

Glad it apears to have a happy ending !
