Basic back up query

I bought a WD My PASSPORT in order to free up space on lap top. If it is used to automatically back up does this mean e.g.once fully backed up and I then delete a photo from the laptop the automatic back up will detect this and delete from the external harddrive?

if so presumably I will have to stop back ups and just drag and drop.

Hello,

The WD Smartware software will not delete any backed up files when you delete them from your computer. However, I don’t recommend having files in only one place. I recommend you save your important data in 2 or more places.
