Has there ever been a solution to the “hidden automatic encryption” issue? You know, the one where if you set your drive to not be encrypted, the hardware still encrypts it, just with a key it invents itself - so when your enclosure goes bust the drive inside is fine, but useless because there’s no way of getting back the secret encryption key.
I’ve read lots of posts, some promising, some not. Suggestions range from getting a new enclosure of the same model, to data recovery and trying to solder the little pieces of the PCB back together again.
Unfortunately, very few threads get to the end and say if something did or didn’t work. So does anyone know of any instances where data from a not-unencrypted drive like this has been recovered?
