I have had luck with a cheap  “BUS-powered” USB hub

Inland High Speed USB 2.0 4 Port Hub

But remember to have your drives powered with their respective power adapters, I have attached four HDDs to this simple hub and found it working after I upgraded the firmware on WDTV Live HUB to version Release 3.00.28 (11/17/11)

Same here, the Inland hub worked fine for me, but I’m now using a D-Link dual-band bridge adapter.
