Anti-Virus Essentials

I was recently subject to an attack of ransomware on my PR4100 NAS. Unfortunately, at that time, I was not running any anti-virus app on the device.
I have subsequently installed Anti-Virus Essentials, and run scans of the device. Now, here’s the thing. I know there is a virus present, the main notification bell tells me so (I think it reports under Anti-Virus Basics).
However, Anti-Virus Essentials doe NOT report a virus. Very confusing.
I have liaised with WD support who have been pretty useless. Their only advice is that if I cannot remove/quarantine the virus with Essentials, then I should backup my data and do a factory reset.
Why does the device identify a virus, but then offer no solution to remove/quarantine, and why does Essential not even find the virus?
I’d appreciate any thoughts or ideas regarding this conundrum.
