I noticed several threads on this topic, where drive reads SLOW and transfers are all but impossible. Beginning back in 2013!! Have not seen any meaningful responses. Perhaps consolidate into one thread? At least to get a useful suggestion perhaps? Has anyone found a resolution? This is late December 2018
You need to diagnose the health of the drive using WD Drive Utilities. If drive fails, need to replace drive under warranty period before taking the data recovery of important data files.
