After erasing password ultra, how do I get WD AppsSetup file to recreate the disk?

Have run a number of backups, but when I try to reload any files, no backup data shows up in the backup screen. Have run all utility disk check utilities, and all pass. Did a disk erase, and reformat per Knowledgebase item 7, but it doesn’t tell you how to re-initialize the disk using the apps setup program that was originally on the disk when I first attached it to my PC. (Windows 7) I assume I have to do this setup, because if I try to start a backup, the backup screen says the disk is offline, even
though I can copy to the disk, and run all the WD disk scan programs with no errors.

Not at all. The software runs from the computer once installed and the original installation files can be deleted from the hard drive.

How did you format your hard drive? WD SmartWare won’t work with exFAT and FAT32.

In the user manual it says the following, ifyou do a drive erase, using theWD utilities:
Go to http://support.wd.com and see Knowledge Base Answer ID 7 for information
about downloading and restoring the WD software and disk image on your drive.
Went there, did that, but the article says NOTHING about how to restore the WDsoftware and disk image. [Windows 7 and Passport Ultra ]

That article does not apply to current generation WD My Passport devices. Current units do not need for those files to be restored unless you simply want to.

You can download all the apps from WD’s Support site. They run from your computer and are not required to be within the hard drive.
