Add a physical drive

Hello,
i have purchased a new EX4100 Network Storage, diskless
i added 2 4TB RED WD drives brand new
and configured it to raid1
and all is working properly.
now the question, i have an old data was drive with 3TB of data inside
can i add it in any of the 2 resting compartments and move the data to the new drives?
or do i need to add it as an external USB drive? (very slow)
and do i need to turn off the EX4100 before removing or adding drives? (hot swappable?)
