Actual WD Hard Drive? OR FAKE

I just opened a new WD Black 2.5" 750gb 7200rpm hard drive to close a laptop but when it is recognized, it shows as “AS Media”…the label is a WD label on the top of the drive but I have never seen this before on other WD drives…Is this actually a WD drive? Or is it a fake

Hi,

As a recommendation, try creating a case with support to see if they can check the information on the unit with the serial number.

need more details to answer this question. shows up as asmedia where? in the device manager? did you install it in the laptop or did you use some external dock or USB adapter?

thanks…had to use USB adapter in order to clone laptop drive…found
out a couple hours after finding this ASMedia that all it is is the
chipset on the drive…After using Data Lifeguard it showed that it was
actually a WD drive so all is well

yea, that’s what i thought. glad it worked out.
