Acronis required for 500gb WD Passport?

WD Passport now requires Acronis True Image to perform a full back up. I have downloaded Acronis but to activate the account it requires a product s/n. Acronis will not accept my WD passport s/n. How can I activate Acronis to do a back up or is my WD passport now useless?
