Accessing WDMyCloudEX4100 via VPN

Hi All,

I have a secured VPN configured and I can access every other device on the network.

However, when trying to access the WDMyCloudEX4100 on a browser (using the IP address) I get this message:

# Access to XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX was denied

You don’t have the user rights to view this page.

HTTP ERROR 403

Any idea how to resolve this?

Yes I did. They are useless as they keep suggesting opening port in the firewall, which is not what I’m asking about.

I presume you are using the local IP address of the WD NAS? NOT the WAN address of your router?

Can you reach the dashboard; or is that also blocked?

Note that (at least for my router)

  • If you block internet access to the NAS; you may inadvertantly block access from different subnets within your network (Happens in my system - – a VPN machine will have IP address on different subnet from NAS; and if “internet traffic” is blocked; it also blocks traffic from my VPN machine)

  • you won’t be able to use the device name to address the NAS. You will have to use the IP Address.
