Hi All,
I have a secured VPN configured and I can access every other device on the network.
However, when trying to access the WDMyCloudEX4100 on a browser (using the IP address) I get this message:
# Access to XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX was denied
You don’t have the user rights to view this page.
HTTP ERROR 403
Any idea how to resolve this?
Hi @bluemanta,
Have you opened a Support Case? If not opened, for more information, please contact the WD Technical Support team for the best assistance and troubleshooting:
Yes I did. They are useless as they keep suggesting opening port in the firewall, which is not what I’m asking about.
I presume you are using the local IP address of the WD NAS? NOT the WAN address of your router?
Can you reach the dashboard; or is that also blocked?
Note that (at least for my router)
-
If you block internet access to the NAS; you may inadvertantly block access from different subnets within your network (Happens in my system - – a VPN machine will have IP address on different subnet from NAS; and if “internet traffic” is blocked; it also blocks traffic from my VPN machine)
-
you won’t be able to use the device name to address the NAS. You will have to use the IP Address.
I remember the frustration of seeing that dreaded “Access Denied” message pop up on my screen. It’s like, you’re just trying to get to your files, and the internet’s like, ““Nah, not today buddy.”” Total buzzkill.Anyway, I did some digging around when I ran into this issue, and one thing that helped was checking the permissions settings on the device itself. Sometimes it’s just a matter of tweaking those a bit to get things working smoothly again. And hey, don’t forget to make sure your VPN settings aren’t causing any interference. That can be a sneaky one.But yeah, if you’re still hitting a wall after all that, here’s a little trick I stumbled upon. Buy premium proxies and that’s it.
Indeed, I am using the local reserved ip address.
Everything is blocked as soon as I hit the ip address.
That’s a good point. I will check the allow internet property.
I did try to address it by ip address.
I can ping it but can’t access the web server on the device.
I wonder if it blocks traffic from a different subnet although it shouldn’t
