is there a simple way of just seeing used and available space , just like you would on a PC with 4 discs in?

Well, you can also see that in the dashboard, it would show you the used space of each share. Also, you can map the share on your computer and after that, it would be visible as a drive on your computer and you would be able to see the used and available space just like an external drive.

ah I wanted to see each drive and see used and spare, not the whole nas. I have drives already shared with directories.
You could enable SSH on the NAS and then use this to connect and run “df -k”. There should be a mount point that corresponds to each drive and would show you the used and free capacity.
