Does anyone know if there are issues with these enclosures?
All 3 of mine are extremely unreliable - sometimes mounting, sometimes disappearing from the Finder, sometimes causing the Finder to lock up. A haven’t even been able to run a Time Machine backup of my computer as it just freezes the Finder at around 5GB to 8GB - maybe it’s a cooling issue?
In the end I ripped one of the enclosures open (which was a pleasure) and installed the drive into a Macpower Pleiades Mini enclosure - now the drive works flawlessly.
Before I do the same thing to the other two WD enclosures (and never purchase a Western Digital enclosure again) I thought I’d check to see if anyone else has experienced these kinds of issues and if there is a fix - maybe firmware, although I couldn’t see anything in the Support area of the WD website.
BTW, I’m connecting the drive via Firewire 800.
Any help or pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated.
