2x G Drive ev220 drives suddenly fail!

I have two of these drives, I was working on an old archive of images on one a few days ago and it was fine, then it suddenly stopped working… no noises, no lights, nada. So I grabbed the back up (same model) and that didn’t work either. Could this be a Mac OS update issue?

If all else fails can I tear out the drives from the enclosure and get them to work via some other means (task may be>skillset)?
