2TB WD Passport Failed

Hello - I have a 2TB WD Passport hard drive. It’s never given me any trouble in three years, but recently I deleted the partition and made a new one. When I went to put some files on it, it starts out normally, but then slows down to 3MB speed and eventually fails. I performed the quick and longer tests, using both essentials and lifeguard, but it failed both quickly. It always shows up in explorer and I can delete/make partitions, but I’m wondering if there’s anything else I can try before tossing it? Thanks for any help.

Hello,

You can try replacing the USB cable and also writing zeroes using WD DLG.

Thanks Hamlet. I tried filling it with zeros, but it failed fairly early on. I had another cable from a Seagate drive that looked similar, don’t know if that matters, but it didn’t seem to make any difference. If anyone has an idea, I’m all ears. Thanks again.
