2TB MacBackup not mounting / readable

Grateful for any recommendations. Need to recover the data.

The drive was occasionally unmounting for no known reason, but that seemed to clear up when I moved it off the powered USB hub and onto the un-used USB port on the Mac. Now unable to mount. First aid fails with fsck returning error 8.

Hey @SailSkiIdaho7B,

If you are using Mac OSX Mojave, then its a common issue. Might be because of the of the driver incompatibility. Currently the reason is unknown as the issue is exclusive.

If the data inside is not backed up anywhere, you may restart the computer while the drive is connected. Once the computer is up and running, if the drivers are reloaded properly, the drive icon should be visible on the Home Screen. If not, the only option will be, Drive Reformat.

Reformat Drive - Disk Utility

Reformat Drive - Drive Utility

DESCLAIMER : Reformatting will erase all the data from the drive .

Thanks for the info. I ran fsck in single user mode and it recovered a bunch of stuff, but the partition table is irreparable. Doesn’t sound like a driver issue. Second WD Passport drive failure for me. Not buying another.
