1TB USB 2 Drive stopped working properly

When I plug in my drive I get the smartware drive shows up, and after some time the main driver letter shows up in my computer but is inaccessible (it stalls windows explorer).  If I look in disk managment the drive is there but disk management locks up so I can’t tell you any more than that.

I did discover that if I plug the drive into my TV all my data is still there.

i’ve tried running the drive on a win 7, vista and xp computer with basically the same results.  I’ve also tried the USB lead from another identical drive.

I was able to get the info from disk management, it shows the drive as primary partition, healthy and… lists the format as RAW.

I guess at this point it means I need to be looking at data recovery?  Are there any recommended options?

Somettimes this works read the part about converting from FAT32 to NTFS http://www.ehow.com/how_8119232_convert-fat-ntfs.html If you have all the data off you don’t have anything to loose. Or you could try something like Eause Partition manager  http://www.partition-tool.com/

if it is showing up as raw, that means that Windows can’t see the drive partition.  if it shows up on your tv, and all the data is there, then most likely your tv - or whatever else you may have used - formatted the drive in another file format that windows can’t read.  you need to find out from your tv manufacturer what format your drive is now in.
