1TB Elements External Drive not recognised

My drive suddenly stopped working, I read some threads on the blinking light issue and purchased a new power supply.

That didn’t make any difference.

Windows would give me a Cyclic Redundancy Check error message and the only option available to me was to format.

I lost the backup data, but thankfully on a whim I had purchased an extra external drive last week!

The Drive is working again, however is this drive failing and should I dump it? Why would it suddenly need formatting?

It could be a corruption problem or bad sectors download Wd’s Digital Life Guard and run that and see what it shows. You can also use it to format by writing zeroes. That somethins fixes bad sectors.
