Will the new firmware effect my changes

By ssh’ing into my MyCloud 4tb I have made some changes and installed additional software. Will a firmware update break or remove my changes?

I don’t know specifically about My Cloud regular but can tell you about My Cloud EX2, which has a different codebase from My Cloud regular but in some aspects like the one you are asking should be fairly similar.

To answer your question - it depends. Changes to file locations like /etc/ will be wiped off after a reboot. Changes (like file additions) made to other locations may or may not survive a reboot, depending on the location.

Without knowing the specific file locations in your changes, it’s hard to say.

Anything changed in the root partition will be overwritten.
