WD10EARS Heat Issue

Hi,

I have very good cooling in my mid-tower, but the (1TB) HDD is running at 50 degrees celcius. I see in the technical documentation that the drive is rated OK until 60 degrees, but conventional wisdom says 40 degrees is a more reasonable, desirable temperature for internal drives.

Am I doing something wrong?

Hello,

According to the WD website from 50 to 55 degrees should be ok.

Thanks. That still seems awfully hot for any HDD.

do you have another drive in that tower?  just to compare the temps… your drive will not lst long with that temps frequently

Hi David,

At the time of writing I had the SATA drive and two PATA drives in my mid-tower. I have since removed one of the PATA drives and connected externally it via a USB drive enclosure. The new SATA drive and remaining PATA are now running at 40 degrees celcius, so I’m wondering if overcrowding was an issue, even though the mid-tower has excellent ventilation.

Thanks.
