WD Elements - lack of international support

I already have a ‘My Passport’ and when I bought a ‘My Elements’ I was surprised to find it had no back-up software.

I am British and my credit cards are all British. I bought the ‘Elements’ in Slovakia and tried to use in Ukraine where I am currently based. I tried to buy SmartWare Pro over the internet but the system would not accept my credit card. I even tried using my British based VPN.

Unless one of guys can suggest a solution the drive will be going back to the store.

The Elements are for people that just want a plain drive with no hardware encryption or backup software. Did you look on the WD site  http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?wdc_lang=en&fid=wdsfElements_Desktop in the download section Smartware is listed. The international restrictions vary by country.
