WD Caviar Green 2TB problem

Hello there everyone from WD,

I just bought my WD 2TB Caviar Green internal HDD about a month ago and have been suing it without any problems. However, ever since yesterday, it slowed down tremendously. I checked the current transfer mode in under the IDE ATA/ATAPI controlleds of the device manager in windows XP and found out that it is using PIO mode, i did some registry hack and it’s now back to the ultra DMA 5 mode and the speed is fine again. Prior to this, i was trying to read a DVD (copy some of its contents) and had a lot of cyclic redundancy check problems… so i guess the problem is caused by the CRCs. Everything is back to normal…until i checked the HDD using WD’s data lifeguard which gives the following error:

Test Error Code: 06-Quick Test on drive 1 did not complete! Status code = 07 (Failed read test element), Failure Checkpoint = 97 (Unknown Test) SMART self-test did not complete on drive 1!

I did the some additional test using HDD tune pro and the following are the results: (before this i’ve done disk check  but doesn’t seem to solve the problem)

it’s just a single count of error only! … anyone knows how to solve this problem? many thanx in advance! have a nice day!^^

oops, seems like the link is down, here’s the link to the screenshot using HDD tune pro:

if you have a S.M.A.R.T. failure, backup your data on another drive and RMA it…
