New Release - Firmware Version 3.01.19 for WD TV Live Hub (12/20/11)

Ok am really disappointed with the new firware releases you guyz are coming up with… but its an’t solving my problems…at all

First of all you guyz added new services to the latest firware release…  but when i try to play some videos from those services…  my WD crashes and restarts …

I cannot start twonky server from my web login…  it will get me back to the same page…?i was able to do that on my very first firmware… version…( 2.x )

Also everytime i try to play… music from my phone using dlna…( using the WD Library itself )  it streams 2 tracks and then it looses connectivity…?  so everytime this happens i have to reset my wd and restart it again to make it work.

it really dosnt solve the purpose of streaming music from the device itself …

please help me out with this…

Ok, tried this firmware: Still doesn’t show subtitles in mkv’s in any impressive way (ie, every 5-6 seconds a subtitle briefly flashes past - ie on screen in less than a second).

I just upgraded yesterday to the latest firmware 3.01.19 (release 20-12-11).
I upgraded the Live Hub from FW 3.00 to 3.01 via WIFI again (approx 3th time since 2.07.17) without any problem.

I must say that everything works pretty good. As far as I can determine that in a day. I will test it a little bit better the upcoming days.

  • various mkv files (mostly 720p) play fluently and without interruptions

  • various mp4 files (mostly 720p) play fluently and without interruptions

  • i haven’t had any lipsync  problems (with mkv, avi with audio included).

  • i haven’t had any subtitle  problems (with mkv, avi with subtitle included in mkv but also separate .srt files).

  • i have tested a few existing Internet services and also new ones and haven’t had any resets so far. I must say that this happend a few times in previous firmwares. But I haven’t tested all services yet. (what i’ve tested so far: TuneIn Radio, Facebook, games o.a.).

  • audio from .mp3 music or Internet services such as TuneIn Radio work perfectly together with photo screensaver (since 3.00 fw this is ok).

  • connection with my wireless (WIFI) internet is fine. I use a USB stick which is approved by WD to use with the Live Hub and works fine since 2.07 version and earlier.

If i found anything that is not working ok i will let you know.

I’m curious if the movie thumbnail movie.jpg is fixed/shown when I add a movie now (I have set the automatic metadata ‘get data’ for all files). This did not happen in FW version 3.00. Although my movies have name such as ‘Avatar (2009).mkv’ Only the movie description and background images of the movies were shown.

So I am knocking on wood, crossing my fingers etc as I write this, but I am very pleased so far with this upgrade. Haven’t encountered any issues whatsoever.

I  am using MOJO and have been using hubgen to build my JPEGs and XML files manualy. I do not have the Hub getting content info. Everything seems to work well, viewing my movies, folders JPEGs work fine except for some lag time that I list below. I like the “My Media Library” which seems to work well as an aggragator for content. All around, pretty impressed with this FW version.

Lag in Showing JPEGS for Folders or Movies

The only noticeable isue I have been seeing is a lag time in displaying JPEGS for folders and for movies. Sometimes when I go to a directory of movies the JPEGS show immedialy, other times there is a lag of a few seconds. This also seem to occur when I go into a directory that has more vid than fit on the screen so I need to pan to the right to see more vids. It can take a few seconds to populate the JPEGs and during that time it just shows me the typical “Movie Reel” icon, and then one by one they change to the JPEGS of the movies. Not sure why this is but relatively minor compared to some of the issues others are writing about in this thread.

BTW: The new rescan folder option which I never would have seen had I not read this thread is amazing. In the past after adding a few movies and their respective XML and JPEGs I reboot the entire machine to have them added to the media library. This is a great feature.

Good luck to all

I see absolutely NO POINT in WD insisting to add “new features” if NEW (and old) BUGS just continue to appear like no tomorrow!

STOP adding useless “features” !

FIX ALL THE BUGS ONCE AND FOR ALL !

Everyone wants that, not only me.  Is so much to ask?

Out of interest what old bugs are you talking about?

Tried update today.
Now the Hub shows the first starting screen only and restart and restart again :frowning:
Reset does not help. RMA again, 4th device within 3 month …

    • *Now I see it was true!

I updated the latest firmware and noticed that everytime I transfer new files into the hub from my Mac via the wireless LAN, the existing titles in that folder is doubled, tripled etc… depending on how many new files are copied into that respective folder. I am not sure if this issue has been covered before but your advice on how to resolve this is much appreciated as it is now becoming really annoying…

thanks in advance

Simplest way to resolve it is to CLEAR MEDIA LIBRARY and let it rebuild.

hi. thanks for your reply.

done and problem has been resolved!!!

just one question… how can I avoid such a problem from reoccuring?

Latest firmware is a nightmare! When using digital passthrough with hdmi only sound with files with dolby digital and dts.

Yep… this is BS! I have a lot of videos that has no DTS or DD sound… And with Digital Pass-Through via HDMI Only I have no sound for these files!!! What is worse is that I don’t have sound for mp3 or flac files, so I can’t listen to music like I did with the previous firmware!

The only way to have sound for these type of files is to go in the Setup - Audio/Video Output - Audio Output and change the output to Stereo!

So I don’t like this at all! WD please fix this ASAP!!!

Well, I did the update. Previously I was running 2.0.xx… not totally sure what version. I had to update two different times to get to this latest version. Not sure if these problems were fixed in this update or a previous one, but:

What I like so far:

  • Audio playing is now fixed. It used repeat the first track a second time, even if you pressed to skip to next track.

  • YouTube works again. For some reason it stopped working out of nowhere. There’s two YouTube apps now… not sure which I like better as I haven’t used them too much.

  • New apps and games, although they’re probably **bleep** games and I don’t really use the apps. I just mainly watch movies and play music.

  • When browsing from my bedroom to the living room, it’s MUCH quicker. Before I’d go into my Mp3 or the Television folder and it would take 3 - 4 seconds before it opened them. Now it’s instant.

  • File copying seems a little quicker? Not totally sure on this one, but I think so.

What I do not like so far:

  • Tried the new ComedyTime app. It froze up the first time. I had to unplug and replug in. The second time I used the app it started playing, but then crashed and restarted the WD. The third time I used the app it seems to be working fine.

  • Network may not stay setup? I’m unsure of this one, but so far every time I’ve turned the unit on I’ve had to search again. I like that it has a previous connection button, though, just that so far I’ve needed to press it every time.

it will be nice if WD gave us gift on christmas by making the local backdrops in the xml to display with no internet connection!

I must be doing something wrong I guess. I installed the new firmware today. But stil no thumnails on screen when a movie is selected. This is very frustrating. Especially for my children they just look at the pictures te select the movie they want to see. I can view the backdrops manually in the options menu for each movie, they also show up when the movie is selected, but this takes a few seconds to load.

This is so very frustrating. What is it that I’m doing wrong with my thumbnail viewing. I’ve seen that there are several meta data programs. I’ve tried them but none of them seems to do what I want. I just want the thumnails on my screen nothing more. Is there someone out there with the solution to my problem.

Clear the media library.

Have Metadata set to Auto and it should check all film names and create a thumbnail and xml.

If this is not working its either an internet problem, a settings (reset to factory to clear this up, or the movies are named as such that the search crawler cannot name and create files.

If you start from default again, and maybe just have 1 film in 1 folder, try going through the motions with that. The firmware is far from perfect but some of it does work-ish.

Thanks for your tips but stil no thumbs when scrolling through my movies. Although I forgot to mention one thing. There are a view movies that have thumbs. These are movies stored in iso format in my WD the rest of my movies is in dvd format (with the video_ts and audio_ts folders). Every movie is in a seperate folder. The XML files for these iso movies are modified by myself because the thumbs for these movies are stored locally on the harddisk.

Does this mean I have te edit every XML file and put the thumnails local???

Ah

I am sure I read someone else saying they could not get it to work with Video TS folders, that may be your problem, unless anyone knows different ?

No use to you unfortunately. So unless you create ISO files, you may have to wait for a fix, or roll back to one that worked, I am sorry I don’t use DVDs on mine so I don’t know which works and does not.

edit : Here it is, I knew I had seen it…

Aaaah. Thanks a lot.

Wel guess I’ll have to do a lot of iso making then. The kids just gonna have to be a little bit patient.

Thanks again for your help.

I think I have this firmware. I haven’t noticed any problem with VIDEO_TS folders. They show as expected.

I can confirm that WD did give us the requested Christmas Gift of yours!

You *CAN* display the local backdrops now without having internet connection now. It works even when the Network connection is not present.

Cheers!
