My Passport won't read thru usb hub

When I connect my WD My Passport 1tb to a MAC MINI thru a USB hub it does not show.  

When I connect it directly to the usb port in the MINI it works OK.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

IT is recommended by WD not to use a hub. One reason is it may not have enough power through the hub.
