hmmm, have you read the manual’s page 86 step #4 for the read only?
Or for any of your questions actually?
Do not want to sound mean, but would rather teach you how to fish…
Hi Shabuboy.
Yes I have read this page, and many others.
Page 86 step 4 explains how to grant read access to a specific userid. I mean the user has to sign in with his/her userid/password before being allowed to access my shared folder in read only mode.
What I would like is to allow any user (not any “userid”) to access my private folder in read only mode. Any user can access the public folders without having to know a userid. Just the same to read my private folder : no sign in.
Regards,
Gilbert
AFAIK, it’s not possible to create a Read-Only public share without hacking the Samba configuration manually.
Not possible as far as I know, that is why it is a private share. A username is required to allow access.
Now the users, can have an empty password but that is not what you want.
What a pity! In my opinion it is useful to publish public information but to forbid modifications.
Anyway, thanks to TonyPh12345 and Shabuboy for their contributions.
