Hard drive died in under two years. Warranty has already somehow expired

I have been trying to open a support case but keep getting error messages so hopefully someone here can help. My WD5000AAKX-00ERMA0  500 GB WD Blue SATA Hard Drive has just died. Since it hadn’t been giving me any issues I was quite surprised. But now I see on this website, my warranty had expired just a few days ago, even though the actual two years isn’t up until 1/8/15, two years from when I purchased my hard drive from NewEgg. Why isn’t the two year warranty actually two years? Does anyone know who I can talk to about this since I am getting nowhere with creating a support case. Thanks.
