I have a WDG2NC15000N. I noticed that the rings will lighting up alternately which i believe means degraded mode. Historically, this has happened to me also when the drive overheats. I shut the drive down and they tried to restart after it cooled down. It will not boot up, but the drive is making a clicking sound (no lights). Any thoughts on what the problem is or how to correct it?

The device do not boot and you hear clicking noises? Men I’m sorry but I think you should contact WD, this might be an indication of a failure of a drive or multiple drives

Just replace the unit, it seems faulty.
