I have owned four (4) of these units in a combination of 500GB and 1TB raid versions and every single one of the enclosures has failed. Surprisingly it is not the disks that failed, they have been fine. Worked for several years, but the onboard embedded CPU and the power supplies all systematically failed. Has anyone else encountered this? I don’t expect the hardware to last forever, but these all died within about 4 years …
Hi, the controller board might have gone back or just the USB connection. If the internal hard drives are OK, then you always purchase another external enclosure.
Thanks - we tried that route with the computer store we bought them from, but the enclosures of that model are not available anymore and they were accessed by ethernet so we just gave up on them because they were so slow and had these failures. We ended up just mounting the disks on a linux box, copying our data off them and buying a real RAID external enclosure with hot swappable drives. Won’t ever buy a retail grade box like those again.
