Word cannot open the document: user does not have access privilages

PC

Passport

WIndows 8.1

New computer, retrieved entire back from old computer onto new computer. Retrieve was successful (90,000+ files) EXCEPT that I can not open any of them. I get the message that I don’t have access privilages. I am signed in with Administrator privilages.

I can change my privilages by going into Properties > Security > Advanced > Advanced secuity settings and taking ownership of the document. Then I can open it. But I’m not doing this for every file–I have thousands.

  1. How can I change the authority at a global level so I can open all files?

  2. Is there a setting in my WD back up software that caused this to happen? How do I set it differently?

  3. Why is there no other discussion of this in the forum? Or is it just me?

Thanks

Russell

Hi there, welcome to the WD Community.

You can make the same changes to the folderby going into Properties > Security > Advanced > Advanced secuity settings and taking ownership of the folder itself.
