Won't let me update firmware, says drive is in use

I’ve downloaded WD Firmware Updater 3.1.0.11. When I go to click on Update Firmware, I get “The specified drive is in use. Please Click Exit, then close all other applications and run the WD Firmware updater again.”

The only application using the drive is the firmware updater…

It might also be the anti virus or anti spyware if you have it.

You may restart the computer and retry.  If issue persists you may also try from another computer.

had this problem also. had disabled virus program but not the windows firewalls. After reading this email string, I remembered the windows firewalls - disabled those, restarted and the firmware updated successfully.

Now updated the software to 1.6.2, but after restarting, the backup and retrieve tabs are greyed out…more reading…

press the drive icon on the home tab and after that the backup and retrieve will work
